Caring for Wooden Jewelry — How to Make It Last
Unlike metal jewelry, wood is a living material — it reacts to moisture, sunlight and contact with skin. With a little care, though, it will serve you for years and keep its shine.
Oil keeps it alive
Treat the wood regularly with natural oil (such as mineral or walnut oil), which prevents it from drying out and keeps its color and shine. Apply a few drops to a soft cloth and gently rub it into the wood, then let it absorb.
Avoid water
Take off your wooden jewelry before swimming, showering or washing dishes. Prolonged contact with water can cause the wood to swell or crack.
Sun and heat
Direct sunlight and heat can dry out and discolor wood. Store wooden jewelry in a cool, shaded spot when you're not wearing it.
Storage
Store wooden jewelry separately from metal pieces to avoid scratches. A soft pouch or small box works best.
Everyday wear
A wooden ring or bracelet will change a little over time — the wood "lives" with time, which many people value as part of the product's story. If you notice small scratches, a light coat of oil will often smooth them out.
